So I'm sitting here listening to "Bird" (japanese pop artist lol) with the NCAA toruney in the background, and just sitting here contemplating life.
The progress with teaching in Korea is almost complete. I mean if you would of told me a year ago I'd be trying to head to South Korea to teach, I would've looked at you like you were crazy. A year ago I was working vigorously in my senior art seminar trying to get my thesis and artwork done for graduation. I thought I was going to stay in Virginia, but came back home. Had a whole network of friends and now they are gone (loooooong story) Funny how much changes in just one year.
Here's the rundown of what's happened in the past month or so...
- I told you that I was working with Footprints Recruiting...well I guess they got tired of me being picky because they ditched me a couple of weeks ago. I really didn't care because I was becoming increasingly frustrated with them as they kept putting me in locations I didn't request and also they wanted to set me up with a school that has been known to have a bad rep. So I guess after turning that one down, they had enough of me...oh well.
- The frustration with them was why I also applied with another recruiter, teacheslkorea.com, and I have been more than pleased with them. It took awhile, but they found me a job...well two jobs actually. The first one was all set to go, but the school decided they wanted to hire someone who had already mailed their documents to Korea. So the person helping me, Shawna, set me up with an interview with Suwon Middle School and everything went well and that is the school that I will be teaching at once I arrive in Korea. They have received my documents and everything and said I should be headed over there between April 10th and the 15th. We'll see.
- Now I am waiting for them to send me my documents and visa number so I can go interview at the Korean Consulate in Chicago. It only takes about 15 minutes from what I've heard and they basically want to know your intentions and why you're coming to their country before they approve your visa. So once I complete the interview, I'll be on my way to Korea!! ...Lord Willing of course. It's funny I have no problem making plans or looking towards the future, but that scripture in James is always in the back of my mind, where it says "Do not say you will do this and that, or go here or there, for you do not know what tomorrow will bring"...which is true. The thing is, I can't say that all day after everything I plan to do, especially in conversations...I don't know...just sounds funny. But it is in the back of my mind.
So anyways, I've got so much stuff to take care of. I've got to buy a few clothing items and toiletry items. I have to notify my bank that I will be in Korea for a year so do not shut down my account if you see some charges from Korea.
I'm excited yet nervous at the same time. Kind of hard to explain. More like I'm excited but wow I'm really about to do this!! lol. Anyways, hopefully I'll be back sooner than later with another update...1
